The following is the Liturgical Calendar for the Celtic Church for January 2016, which I have reckoned from the Lorrha-Stowe Missal and the Hours of Bangor (+ Bp Maelruain). I don't have Saints' days for the whole month ( I hope to include in later editions), but you will notice that this month is still chock full of commemorations and feast days, most notably... Christmas?!?!
Yes, Christmas is reckoned on Jan 7, its date from the pre-Gregorian, or Julian calendar. Yes, many (if not most) western Orthodox churches are "New Calendar"; but in trying to remain true to the historic roots of the Christian faith, we feel compelled, as many Eastern churches, to hold to the Old Calendar, where fixed feast days are 13 days after the New Calendar dates.I find this personally beneficial, as I no longer feel torn between doing the family, gifts, and visiting on Dec 25, and celebrating the Christ- Mass in Church on Jan 7, with worship as the only priority. Besides, that gives me TWO Christases, and the 12 days of Christmas after... :)
Anyway, here is the calendar... Fasting days are marked in blue.
